Solicitation of the Month: A School for Pike Place Market, Seattle, WA

A Pike Place school is looking for a good contractor

Another month has come, and that means its time for the Solicitation of the Month. A few months back, I discussed the on-going overhaul of Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market. As part of that overhaul, the Pike Place Childcare and Preschool will receive some additional space to expand into the Market’s Fairley Building. As a new dad in waiting, this deserves the monthly claim to fame on Builders Counsel.

Demolition of the Fairley Building has been complete for some time, giving way to new space for the school’s expansion. Thus, Pike Market Childcare and Preschool is opening bids today for construction of roughly 7,500 square feet of tenant improvements.

According to the Daily Journal of Commerce, the work includes: demolition, electrical distribution, lighting, cabinets and finishes, as well as renovations for a new play area. So, a number of subcontractors may have a role in this project.

If you do not know much about this school, it was formed for the main purpose of assisting low income families. Even today, the school provides care and education to those in need; 75% of its students are on tuition assistance.  On June 4, 2011, Seattle radio station, KEXP, will host a pledge drive to raise funds for the school.

According to the Dodge Report, the project is valued somewhere around $515,000. Bidding began today, so if you are interested please follow this link and take a peak.

Best of luck to all bidders.
