Solicitation of the Month: Subcontractors Needed For University of Washington Light Rail Station

This weekend, I drove out to Westport, Washington to do some surfing. Along the way, I passed Elma, WA, which is in process of bidding out an impressive new hospital. Impressive, but not so much as to overtake this month’s solicitation of the month: UW’s new light rail station is searching for a handful of subcontractors.

Sound Transit’s major project is in full flux. Years after the first Central Link light rail station was built, Sound Transit has begun building to extend service into Seattle’s northern neighborhoods. Along with the new Capitol Hill Station, the University of Washington Station began tunnel construction over one year ago. The Capitol Hill project is looking for a GC/CM at this time.

For a look at the UW Station’s progress, check out the Sound Transit page linked here. The station itself began construction this Spring. The general contracting duties were awarded to Hoffman Construction Company of Washington back in February of this year.

Now, the general contractor is looking for some help. Subcontractor bid packages have been submitted for doors, frames and hardwares, glazing, insulation, fireproofing, ceilings, painting, tile and other work. You can find further bid information over at the Daily Journal of Commerce (link might not last long) and at the OMWBE website.

Bids are due by September 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM. A pre-bid meeting will be held on August 10, 2011 at 2 PM, for all of you subcontractors who are interested.

Best of luck to those of you bidding!
